Balkan Institute for Labour and Social Policy, perceived as one of its main tasks the promotion and support of the inclusion of the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into business strategies of the Bulgarian enterprises. Within this task we perform:
  • Analysis of the situation in enterprises and preparing of recommendations for improvement in various areas of CSR - human resources management, occupational safe and healthy, industrial relations, respect for human rights - preventing child labour, forced labour, discrimination, harassment and violence in the workplace, socially responsible management of the change, etc.
  • Development of curricula and training of specialists in the field of CSR
  • Organization of round tables, conferences, seminars, competitions in national issues of CSR
  • Developing CSR strategies for small and medium enterprises.

In the basis of the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) can be found two groups of theories. Theories of ethical responsibility advocates strong corporate self-limiting and active public policies aimed at strengthening the rights of stakeholders. Theories for economic responsibility advocate the creation of wealth in market ways with minimal public policy, combined with customary business ethics. One of the main goals of CSR is precisely to identify a subset of ethical principles to generate competitive advantages of the corporate market.

In the Green Paper of the European Commission Promoying a European Framework for Corporate Social Responsibility has been given the following definition:
